Blame It On The Rain

Yes, it's raining outside with some pretty massive winds here in Southern California.

DID YOU KNOW

The US Government provides free weather information to anyone free of charge. This is the source to The Weather Channel and Accuweather and all the other weather companies. It is an interesting fact.

More about the weather later...let's cut to the chase...

If your company does not have a website by now, you are simply missing out. There are 2 ways to market, online or offline. Many businesses prefer the offline model because it makes it more personable, though the online model can create instant sales on every hour on the clock. So even when you are sleeping, orders can  be made.

To get to that point can be overnight to within a few months, depending on the overall strategy. Marketing ratios are the key to any online business. Converting traffic to sales.

How do we convert traffic to sales?

There are lots of things to consider when converting traffic to sales. One of the things I stress is make sure you have a pretty good domain name relating to your niche or industry. The second is to have a good looking  site. When your site looks like shit, chances are you are not going to get any sales.

Web standards change every few months and new scripts and tools are being created everyday, so it is of utmost importance to be on top of that or you will definitely miss out.

This brings me to my next point, SEO. You've heard of it, but what is it? Let's take an exerpt from wikipedia that best explains SEO.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, includingimage searchlocal searchvideo search and industry-specific vertical searchengines. This gives a web site web presence.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
The acronym "SEO" can refer to "search engine optimizers," a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term "search engine friendly" may be used to describe web site designs, menuscontent management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure.
Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms, keyword stuffing and article spinning that degrade both the relevance of search results and the user-experience of search engines. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques in order to remove them from their indices.

Bottom line, what all this means to you is how to get your site on the first page of the search engines which will bring more traffic that will, with fine tuning, convert to sales.

Now if you were a celebrity, you's have no problem getting traffic. Just create a twitter account and watch them come. Though chances are you are not a celebrity and you can't figure out how to make a sale online. Offline you can, online you have not yet.

This is where you hire a guy like me. Outsourcing is not that all uncommon anymore in regards to creating a web presence to ultimately put more money in the bank. Like wiki points out, sometimes seo just means changing the code or the design of the site to give the search engine spiders what they want and you get indexed that much faster.

Search engines shouldn't be the only source of traffic on your list. It can help though it's just one of the many ways to get traffic.

Sign up to an industry specific forum where they all meet and putting a link in your signature line can get some targeted traffic.

Some have had success on Twitter or Facebook, make sure your link is visible to your "friends" or "followers".

Write about your product or service through articles. Article marketing is another good way to get traffic.

The more links you have going to your site, the more traffic you can expect, just don't expect it all at once.

In closing, SEO is a business onto itself and if not done properly, it can deter you from making the kinds of numbers you set forth in creating your online empire.
